Honkai: Star Rail has 67 playable characters, which include both 4-star and 5-star characters. 5-star characters are rarer and more powerful. You can get a guaranteed 5-star character after 300 pulls on the Stellar Warp banner. However, players can speed up this process by using Honkai: Star Rail Oneiric Shards by purchasing them from TOPUPlive. These shards can be traded for Stellar Jades, which can then be exchanged for passes to pull for characters. Leveling up your characters improves their stats and skills, making them stronger in battles.

Leveling up characters

Leveling up the characters requires character EXP. It can be obtained in the ways given below:

Battles

As you use your characters in the battles, each character will gain EXP. However, the amount of EXP gained on defeating the enemies is very less. This is a slow process. The efficient way of leveling up lies in the use of Character exp materials.

Character EXP materials

Choose the character you want to make more powerful. Then, use these items to help them level up. These special materials give a lot of experience points (EXP). This helps the characters to grow faster. You can find these items in your inventory under the "Upgrade Materials" section.

These materials are of 3 types. They are explained below:

Travel Encounters:

This item will give your character 1,000 EXP. You need to spend 100 credits each time you use it. You can get this item through Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories, Assignment reward, and Operation Briefing (Part 1).

Adventure Log:

It is a special item that gives your character 5,000 EXP to help them level up. You need to spend 500 credits each time you use it. You can get Adventure Logs by completing certain activities like Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories, Daily Training, Operation Briefing (Parts 1-4), and main story missions. You can also buy it from shops like Embers Exchange, Internal Purchase Officer, Jeweler's Pagoda, and the Underground Shop.

Traveler's Guide:

The Traveler's Guide is a special item that gives your character 20,000 EXP to help them level up. You need to spend 2,000 credits each time you use this item. You can get Traveler's Guides by completing activities like Calyx (Golden): Bud of Memories, Forgotten Hall, Operation Briefing, HoYoLAB Daily Check-In, and main story missions. You can also buy them from the Deep Web Gray Market and Jokes Come True shop.

Ascension

Characters require ascension at levels 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70. It allows the player to further level up the character. Once the player reaches the level cap, they are given the ability to ascend and unlock the higher set of levels. It also increases the level cap for traces.

How to ascend the characters?

The requirements for ascending characters are given below:

Ascension materials

You need Ascension materials to serve this purpose. You can get these materials by defeating enemies in battles. Also, you can complete the Stagnant Shadows challenge and get ascension materials as rewards.

Trials of Equilibrium

To be able to ascend your characters, you also need to complete the Trials of Equilibrium. You must reach certain Equilibrium Levels to unlock Ascension. As your Equilibrium level will increase, enemies will become stronger. So, it's important to level up your characters for level cap and handle tougher battles. Using 5-star characters can make the battles easier and faster. Players can buy Honkai: Star Rail Oneiric Shards. These Oneiric shards can be used to buy passes. Passes are helpful in pulling 5-Star characters.

Traces

Leveling up will also unlock Traces. Upgrading Traces makes your character's skills stronger. To upgrade them, you have to use trace materials. The sources of trace materials are as follows:

Battles: You can get Trace Materials by defeating different types of enemies in battles. Each type of enemy will drop different Trace Materials.

The Omni Synthesizer is a useful tool. It lets you exchange unwanted items from your inventory with important resources.

The Assignment system allows you to send your characters on expeditions. On these missions, the characters collect resources. The basic Trace Materials collected through assignment can be traded to get the desired trace materials through the Omni-Synthesizer. Assignments also help in collecting other valuable resources for your characters.

Embers Exchange- This is an in-game store where you can buy Trace Materials with your undying embers.

Echo of War Drops- This source offers Trace Materials that are required for Bonus Ability Traces. It is also used for leveling skills, ultimates, and talents of the characters past level 8.

Eidolons

When you pull a character that you already have, it is counted as a duplicate. Duplicate pulls unlock Eidolons. Eidolons can be used to improve your characters' skills and abilities. You can unlock a maximum number of 6 eidolons for each character.

Conclusion

To make your characters stronger in Honkai: Star Rail, you need to follow some important steps. Level up your character and reach the level cap. Use the character EXP materials to speed up the process. Ascend them to be able to level up further.

Upgrade your character's traces to improve their skills. This makes them even more powerful in combat. Equipping relics and light cones also provides helpful boosts. By leveling up relics and light cones, these boosts become even stronger. Lastly, raising your Equilibrium Level is important. While this makes enemies stronger, it also gives you better rewards when you win. These rewards contain valuable resources that also help you level up your character's, light comes etc. They may also contain ascension materials.
